People working with food wear protective clothing to protect the product from you, not to keep you clean.
Typical clothing you will wear:
These are designed to stop your hair falling out into the food.
For certain jobs you may need to wear gloves. If you do, it is still very important to keep your hands clean, you will be using your hands to put your gloves on and off.Gloves should be kept clean and regulalry changed as necessary.
You will usually be asked to wear some form of company uniform. This varies from shop to shop. It may be a white coat, or chef's trousers and Polo Shirt, or a company T shirt. Whatever you are asked to wear it is very important to make sure it is clean and in good condition when you put it on, and that you change it as often as you need to, usually daily, but it may be more frequently if you get dirty.
The uniform is there to make you look good to the customers, but the main reason you wear it is to prevent contamination of the food from anything that may be on your own clothes.
If you are preparing food you may also wear aprons. It is important these are kept clean, or if they are disposable ones, changed regularly and disposed of correctly.
Protective clothing, and footwear for the shop should only be worn in the shop, and outdoor clothes and footwear for the outside.
